Wivey Link Community Transport

We are a community charity delivering essential services that keep older, disabled, and isolated people connected to healthcare, education, employment and their communities.

We operate from our office in Ford, Wiveliscombe and we serve the larger rural area of some 8,000 inhabitants known as The 10 Parishes.

All our passengers register with us annually, and pay £1.60 per mile to get to their appointments, shopping and social trips, healthcare and local groups. We have over 400 members of all ages and backgrounds, and membership is open to anyone living in the 10 Parishes area

About Wivey Link

Wivey Link was set up to help combat rural isolation and the service is open to all, whatever age, who for whatever reason, have no access to transport be it public or private. We have 2 wheelchair accessible cars and our volunteers are trained to support wheelchair users.

Who is it for?

Wivey Link is open to anyone living in the 10 Parishes Inner Zone or Outer Zone on our map, regardless of age or background.

When does it operate?

Wivey Link operates Monday to Friday from approximately 9am to 5pm, not including Bank Holidays.

How does it work?

You must be registered as a member before you can travel with us. Once you are a member, simply phone us via the booking line 01984 624 666 to book your journey, or use our online form.

Our volunteers will take your request, and call you back once we have a vehicle and a volunteer driver available. We will need to know if you are using a wheelchair, and if you will remain in the wheelchair or transfer to a seat in the car.

If you cannot transfer from your home to the car, you will need to bring a carer with you, who will travel for free. Call us to discuss this if you have any questions.

Priority goes to medical appointments.

Wivey Link is a trading name of Wiveliscombe Area Partnership, a company limited by guarantee with charitable status, managed by a Board of Directors consisting of community minded residents.

Do you have time to get involved?

We are always looking for more volunteer Wivey Link drivers as well as support for our phone lines, as well as the annual Street Market and the 10 Parishes Festival, so if you would like further information about this opportunity to help the local community please contact us on 01984 624 666.

Registration and Fares

Registration lasts one year and costs £25 for the 10 Parishes Inner Zone and £35 for the Outer Zone.

Fares start at £6.40 and cost £1.60 per mile with concessions for bus-pass holders after 9.30am.

Accessible Services

We currently have three wheelchair accessible vehicles and one non-modified vehicle which can accommodate shopping trolleys and strollers.

Supporters and Volunteers

Wivey Link is supported by Somerset Community Fund, Wiveliscombe Town Council, The National Lottery Community Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation, and many of our surrounding local Parish Councils.

The service is run by volunteers with a small part time staff team.

In 2004, we were awarded the Nationwide award for volunteering. We have also been honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

10 Parishes Festival and Wiveliscombe Street Market

We are proud to be the team behind the renowned biannual 10 Parishes Festival and the annual Wiveliscombe Street Market, events which bring together creative individuals and groups in the 10 Parishes to celebrate the creativity of the area.
